Loss of service every day at 01:45 to 02:15 your local time.

I'm running a service in New Zealand (12 hours ahead of your local time). Every day from about 13:45 to about 14:15 my Layar clients stop receiving completed responses to refresh requests. At any other time of day it takes 3 seconds for the request/response to complete, but at these times the response just either hangs or times out.

Between (approx) 13:45 and 14:15 I can watch the response get successfully sent from my server, but the client device does not acknowledge receipt of the new records. If I send the identical request from my desktop instead of from the Layar clients then I get a response in the expected 3 seconds.

At any other time of day it works perfectly. If I change nothing at all, just wait until 02:30 your time, all will be fine again.

Are you running some processes at this time that may cause this?

Layar v5. All devices tested exhibit this behaviour... Android, iPhone, iPAD.

Hello All,

I hope this is good news. We have fixed something that could resolve the outage issue. We did this fix yesterday and hopefully that it can be confirmed by you as well.

Thanks a lot for your input!

Best Regards,
Xuan

Hello All,

Yes, we have received several other reports regarding the same issue. The weird thing is that these developers can reach out layar.com on PC and the native browser on the phone device. However, they could not connect to layar service during this time. We have done some research and are still investigating it. Our observation is that this issue is not reproducible in Europe at the time when this issue happens (approximately around 1:45am Amsterdam time). Our service is not down. However, there is something strange going on and we are looking into it.

We will update everyone if we found anything and please also let us know if you notice anything that might be helpful.

Thanks a lot!

Xuan

Hi, I'm also seeing this issue but it appears to be around 5pm Pacific time each day.  When it happens, I see 'Getting Results' status in camera view and no loading of POIs.  Seems to resolve itself in about 30 minutes.

Hello David,

Thanks a lot for reporting this to us. We are aware of an issue with AWS service from time to time which makes our service not responsive for 15 to half an hour. We need to discuss this further to find out a good solution.

Would you please try to see whether you can reach other servers hosted in Europe at the time when you are experiencing this issue ? Just to make sure that this is exactly the same issue.

Thanks a lot!

Best Regards,

Xuan
