layer icon upload doesn't work

I'm creating a new layer. At "linking and indexing", a 128x128 icon is said to be required, but it is impossible to upload it. I click on the Upload button, browse and select a file, and I get this error: "Image upload failed with message: cannot identify image file". I wonder what it means by "identify".

I can't  upload the icon.. ?? what is the problem??

Ok this is ridiculous, it works in Google Chrome, fails in Opera.

 So, in Firefox the red messages for form validation don't work. In Opera, image upload doesn't work...... now I'm using Google Chrome, hope this is THE supported browser or I'll have to try every browser on earth.

Oh now I can't even publish the layer, because when I click "request approval" it says I must upload an icon... only I can't!!!!

 How the hell do I upload the icon?
