Make Layar maps view independent of mapping provider

We have received the following request from different parties.
Basically developers want to have the ability to launch different map from "take me there" button or the build in map view. For instance, for hikers I'd like to implement a direct access to hiking maps from the french IGN portail.
This is already a change request in our system (CR-17), the product team needs to make a decision on it.

I'm currently working on a Layar project for Burning Man 2012. Black rock city is torn down and rebuilt from scratch each year. As such google maps only has a light impression of the area available. I'll keep an eye on this forum to see if such a thing happens between now and August. Of course it's also possible that Google will incorporate this year's street layout into their public maps temporarily.
